5 ways to make your Christmas party go WOW
Christmas is around the corner - and it is already time to start planning for Christmas!
Whether you have a small or large budget, intimate or large gathering, for family or work parties - as an event planner - I know these Christmas ideas below will make your Christmas party special and memorable. Your guests will walk out saying “I would love to come back to this type of party again!” and “I am excited about our work Christmas party next year!”
So here are 5 ideas that will WOW your guests at your Christmas party:
Maintain your Christmas theme throughout your party.
There are different types of Christmas themes, including:
Traditional Christmas
Winter Wonderland
Nutcracker
The Grinch
A Christmas movie (or marathon)
Harry Potter
Gingerbread
Candy canes
Santa’s workshop
This creates the atmosphere and tone from when your guests arrive, to the visual setup, food and music. Make sure you keep the theme and styling consistent.
2. Food
Be creative and decorative with your finger bites (including cookies), desserts and even drinks. Include some classic Christmas dishes in between! Don’t forget to have candy canes and gingerbread man cookies.
3. Music
This tops the Christmas vibe, but make sure it fits well with the theme. The music can either be on background speakers, TV or a live band performing. Aside from traditional Christmas songs, other examples include:
The Nutcracker Suite (Opus 71A) by Tchaikovsky for Nutcracker theme
The movie reference as just music, or on a projector or TV playing in the background
Covers of Christmas songs by famous singers and bands (in a playlist)
4. Lights
The type of lights that would make Christmas feel festive include fairy lights and candles. Although they commonly appear in a warm colour, fairy lights can also be in a cool colour (fits well with the Winter Wonderland theme). Apart from the Christmas tree, fairy lights can be used as:
Hanging over the guests table in an outdoor party setting
Running around and along balconies and poles
Along staircase rails (accompanied with festive decorations)
Around large Christmas arrangements
The use of candles (including lanterns) provides a homely feeling as part of Christmas decorations. These can complete large Christmas arrangements, with small candles (in clear or crystal coloured cylinders) as part of the table when guests sit down, eat and laugh.
5. Table
This is the most important part of the Christmas party. This would include:
A table runner with ornaments, including baubles, pine cones, snow globes
A full cutlery set with an individual small favour or the guest’s name
A Christmas bonbons (crackers)
Hanging ornaments from the ceiling to create intimacy
Having ongoing music in the background!
