7 ways to entertain kids in weddings

This is a common question that I hear from bride-to-be’s - and as a mum, it is very hard to impress kids!

We definitely don’t want kids to ruin your wedding day; the last thing you want to hear from kids is crying and throwing a tantrum.

So here are 7 ways to keep kids entertained in weddings:

7. Hiring a bouncy castle and giant games

If you have a large garden or open area just outside your wedding reception venue, this would be hours of uninterrupted fun! While you are inside (or nearby) celebrating with your guests, kids can enjoy themselves with mobile play including bouncy castle and several giant games. Giant games which are kid-friendly including Connect 4, dominoes, and Jenga.

6. Kids photobooth

You can have a separate photobooth, just for kids, so that it can be special for them. Less chance of sharing and lining up with the adults means the kids are less likely to lose patience and they are more likely to enjoy themselves too and have fun! You can have props and signs based on popular kids themes, including Bluey and Peppa Pig. Kids can also bring their own props and toys if it helps them feel more comfortable at the wedding.

5. Kids entertainers

There are lots of kids entertainers in Sydney who are also available to be present in wedding receptions. Kids entertainers specialise in particular activities, including face-painting and blowing bubbles; and can also cater to kids age ranges, so they may bring extra activities for different age groups.

4. Activity pack

Instead of wedding favours (or bonbonnieres), kids can have their own activity pack on their designated spot in the reception! The activity pack would keep them preoccupied at night. Goodies inside the activity pack can include colouring pages, crayons, play-doh, bubble wands and even glow-sticks.

3. Separate kids activity table

There can be a separate kids activity table for the kids to sit together and socialise with guests of similar age, yet would still be in close vicinity to their parents. This activity table can have numerous arts and crafts activities which the kids can do together and even bring home after the wedding.

2. Separate kids play area (or room)

If the wedding reception venue has space (or even better - has a separate room next door), it can be a kids play area (like a creche). This can definitely keep the kids out of the way while you and your adult guests can enjoy yourselves but know that they are nearby in case anything happens.

A popular option for having a separate room for the kids is to turn it into a movie room - kids can have popcorn and their drink, and enjoy a child-friendly movie at the same time!

1. Professional babysitters

This is the most popular option to have. As children can be unpredictable, it is a good idea to hire professional babysitters who can look after them. The kids can be grouped with the babysitters in a separate room or area (just for the kids), and the babysitters know how to keep the kids entertained and know promptly what to do if kids need help (for example, where to go to the bathroom).
