How to create a gender reveal party - with no mess
Gender reveal has become popular over the years and brings excitement to not only close friends and relatives, but also the expectant parents!
With this type of special moment, the expectant parents can either know the gender and have this party as a form of announcement to their loved ones, or even more exciting - the expectant parents might find out the gender at the same time as their loved ones! (That also makes it even more special)
The gender reveal party is to be held from earliest 10-12 weeks pregnancy (as long as the gender is confirmed with ultrasound, or non-invasive prenatal blood test), but best when the expectant mum is in her 2nd or 3rd trimester of her pregnancy.
There are lots of creative ideas of finding out the gender reveal. This includes having fireworks, party poppers all going off at the same time, revving cars, hitting the ball with a cricket bat (all with pink or blue powder), and confetti. However, the overall announcement can be messy and clean-up afterwards can be tiresome.
So here are 6 ways to plan a gender reveal (without the mess!)
Cake pops
This can be not only the announcement, but can also be served as dessert to the guests. But make sure the gender reveal is completely sealed and covered!
Here is an easy-to-follow recipe by Kitchen Divas to creating gender reveal cake pops!
Cake
There are so many different cake recipes, as long as the gender is well hidden inside of the cake. My favourite type is the cake with blue or pink candy hidden in the centre of the cake which comes out like a waterfall when the cake is cut!
I came across a recipe by Betty Crocker to create a cake without having the gender revealed by the icing left on the knife when the cake is cut!
Balloon box
All you need to do with this simple option is to decorate the outside of the box and put pink or blue balloons (to be tied to weights) inside the box. So that when the gender reveal box opens, the balloons will come out, yet it will not fly into the sky!
BONUS: I actually did just that at my gender reveal event - I told my best friend exactly how I wanted the gender reveal to be announced, along with the theme. My theme was Mickey or Minnie Mouse (as I am a big Disney fan). My best friend had the faces of Mickey and Minnie Mouse at the front of the box, and the balloon came out to be a singular big balloon of Mickey’s face! We personally also wanted to be surprised at the announcement (so we did not know our baby’s gender, however I had maternal instincts!)
Wardrobe
A gender reveal wardrobe is becoming the trend these days! A wardrobe needs to be filled with pink or blue clothing (with smaller accessories such as toys and shoes) which will be displayed and shown to all guests when the wardrobe is opened. You can have other colours instead of solid pink or blue clothes - as long as it obviously shows the gender when the wardrobe is opened. Add a touch to the front of the wardrobe such as “Boy or girl?” to add excitement.
Tip: The clothes and accessories are great to be saved and used for the baby after birth!
Ribbon around the belly
This is also a very simple gender reveal idea. The expectant mother has a blue ribbon and pink ribbon around her belly. The trusted and responsible person in honour (who only knows the gender in advance) stands behind the expectant mother and uses scissors to cut the ribbon (of whichever is not the gender) to reveal the remaining coloured ribbon that corresponds to the baby’s gender that still stays around the belly!
Scratchie
Like an instant scratchie, you can also have gender reveal cards where you scratch the card (with key or coin) to find out if it’s a boy or girl. It is best to purchase or order scratchies with a stationery supplier or found in some party stores. This is a great option if you want a low-key gender reveal celebration.
Not all parents want to have a gender reveal, and prefer to either find out as soon as the gender is revealed, or want it as a surprise themselves at the time of childbirth.
However, gender reveal parties are becoming more popular. Some expectant parents already know the gender but they just want to announce it as a gender reveal style to their guests, or they want to surprise themselves at the same time as the rest of their guests. Regardless, the pressure to make it a big announcement is immense - whether it has to be over-the-top, or the pressure is most on the person who is given the honour to only know the gender (before anybody else) but has to organise the whole announcement.
An event planner, like me, can plan the whole gender reveal party (especially the announcement) - whether you want to have an explosive gender reveal, or to have no mess.
Especially not being close to your guests, you can be reassured that the reveal will not be spilled out earlier than planned to spoil the fun. We can achieve a successful announcement so that there is no pressure on you, or the close honoured person to plan it out for you.
